FAQ

  • The practice of kinesiology is the assessment of human movement and performance and its rehabilitation and management to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and performance.

    — (Kinesiology Act, 2007. c. 10, Sched. O, s. 3)

  • A Kinesiologist can help you work towards your unique rehabilitation, injury prevention, return to work and personal training goals. Through prescribed therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and functional training, Registered Kinesiologists can work with you to create an individualized plan to fit your needs.

Kinesiologists have knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics (how the body moves), musculoskeletal injuries (ex. sprains & strains), general nutrition, ergonomics, and exercise physiology. These skills sets and abilities position Kinesiologists well to provide fitness & health evaluations and exercise prescription, general nutrition and lifestyle counselling, athletic therapy, and manual therapy techniques.

Kinesiologists use assessment techniques to help determine the mechanism of injury (the root of the problem) and work with you to develop a treatment plan suited to your needs. Regular visits to see the Kinesiologist may be required and clients may be provided home-based exercises to help maintain the progress made in-person with the Kinesiologist.

  • Some insurance companies do cover kinesiology services, but others do not. Check with your insurance provider or plan to see if kinesiology services are covered.

Kinesiology associations are advocating for the profession and are working with insurance companies across the country to increase coverage for kinesiology service. Continue to check in with your insurance provider to see if they have added the coverage for kinesiology services.

  • Great Lakes Kinesiology does not direct bill insurance companies at this time.

Following payment in full to Great Lakes Kinesiology at the time of visit, the client is then responsible for submitting to their insurance provider for reimbursement, should they wish to do so.
